Live Blog: Bombings in Boston

Three people were killed and 144 others were injured Monday afternoon as two powerful explosions detonated in quick succession on Boylston Street near the Boston Marathon finish line in Back Bay, transforming a scene of athletic celebration into bloody chaos.

When the smoke cleared from the blasts, dozens of victims lay in the street, some unconscious, some grievously injured, including some whose limbs had been torn off by the blast.  >> Story

  The 8-year-old boy who was killed in one of today's Boylston Street explosions lived in the Ashmont section of Dorchester, the Globe is reporting. The boy, Martin Richard, was the son of William and Denise Richard of Carruth Street in Dorchester. William, a community activist, reportedly ran the Marathon while his family waited for him at the finish line. His wife and daughter are in the hospitalwith grievous injuries; another daughter was unharmed.
